By: Chris V For some of you, school isn't far off from starting. And from what I've heard from other girls, school is one of the main stress factors in their lives! Or, maybe it's not school. Maybe it's work, friend issues, or family issues stressing you out. The definition of stress from Merriam-Webster is "...a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation". Most of us will experience stress at some point in our lives. While stress is painted as a "normal" part of life, it's not. It's a part of the sinful, fallen world we live in. When we stress about the things in our lives, we're not trusting God with those things. We're trying to take control, even when God promises He has a plan for our lives that will work for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28). So, what can we do when we're stressed and handle it in a God-honoring way? Check out the five verses below! 1. Psalm 94:19 (NIV)"When anxiety was great within me, your [God's] consolation brought me joy." 2. Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV)"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” 3. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." 4. Romans 8:28 (CSB)"We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." 5. Psalm 55:22 (ESV)"Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved." If you're prone to stress, take a moment to write out, meditate on, and memorize these verses. Also, be sure to pray about your stress and lift up your burdens to God, who hears and cares about your prayers ( 1 John 5:14-15). When you're stressed about life and what the future holds, look at these verses and repeat them to yourself as a reminder the God is in control and has a GOOD, PERFECT plan for you, even when it doesn't feel like it. (Side note: feelings aren't facts!) God's got you, girl!
