By: Guest Blogger~ AnonymousDear young ladies, Questions! We have so many questions! Who am I? Why am I here? How am I supposed to use my gifts and talents? How will I meet the man I am supposed to marry? How do I navigate life in this crazy culture? Will I maintain my Christian faith and worldview as I grow up and leave home to pursue my life’s work and goals? How do I decide what to do with my life? I wish there was one thing I could say was THE most important thing to do to answer all your questions of the universe, but it’s never that simple. However, we can know the One who does have all the answers to all your questions, and our greatest challenge and most rewarding endeavor is to get to know Him intimately, to know Him as your best friend, your kind and gracious Father, your benevolent, merciful King, your all powerful, all knowing sovereign God. He has made Himself known through His Word. There are many ways to gain exposure through the Word, including
Each of these methods is important to personally use and master. Hearing is very easy nowadays, through audio versions of the Bible, even free on your phone or computer, but also through the sermons at church, Bible reading/ daily conversation with friends and family. Consistent, habitual reading is very important to gain a personal knowledge of, and love for God. Learning methods of studying the Bible are important in order to find the answers to life’s questions, “accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Memorizing and meditating take discipline, as all of these do, but reap the most benefits!! Recently, especially through the frustrations and challenges of the past Covid-19 year, I have been surprised at how often verses come to mind that I memorized during my childhood through my college years. During that time I memorized numerous Psalms, the book of Philippians, various other chapters and verses all through the Bible. My husband, as well, did a lot of memorizing during his college years (having just become a Christian during his first year of college), including the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Our conversations of the past year and a half have been constantly sprinkled with quotes from Philippians and the Sermon on the Mount!! I would find it hard to count up a dozen verses I have memorized since I graduated from college, especially since getting married and having kids. If I could challenge you with one thing, it would be to spend time and effort to put personally meaningful passages of Scripture to memory during these more carefree days of your life, when you have fewer demands on your time and attention. You will be richly rewarded. The goal is to get to know God more intimately, which is His desire for you as well. He wants to bless us with Himself as we trust Him in all things. But it’s hard to trust someone you don’t know.
